Wollaton Hall

Wollaton Hall is a beautiful country house. It is build during the second half of the 16th century. In the hall of the building you can find a hand blown pipe organ, which is believed to be the oldest in England, dating from the end of the 17th century. On the ceilings are beautiful paintings. One of the previous owners, Sir Hugh Willoughby, was an explorer, always wondering about everything living thing around him. During his expeditions to find answers, he made a lot of drawings of plants and animals and also brought animals back. These books and stuffed animals now are the contents of Natural History Museum the house became.
In the out-buildings you can also find the City’s Industrial Museum. In it are lace- and knitting machines and also a display of cycles and motor cycles. It seems that the brand Raleigh was made in Nottingham. The motorcycles are also a famous and very expensive brand. The Industrial museum also contains a series of vintage tractors and steam engines. Model steam engines are working the whole day and are very nice to see I think.
Around the buildings is a big deerpark. We also found quite some squirrels running around and gathering food for the winter.
